This song is based on the message of Philippians 4 – a message though, that seems far removed from many of the popular Christian teachings today.

I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.

Paul’s exhortation to be content in all circumstances does not resonate with the “prosperity gospel” of today, which promises that a Christian’s life will be full of blessings and prosperity and that there will be no troubles or struggles of any kind. Such a teaching has no semblance whatsoever to what we read in the scriptures. As Christians, there is no assurance that our lives will be free from trials and tribulations – the only assurance we have is that amidst the fiercest storms of our lives, yea, even when we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, our Good Shepherd will always be with us, comforting us, supporting us and encouraging us.

Paul also encourages us to constantly and persistently look to God in prayer in all situations, however hopeless it may seem.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
